Head & Neck
Dr Eng Ooi is a member of the Flinders multi-disciplinary Head and Neck group. He has gained experience in head and neck surgery for benign and malignant (cancer) disease from his training in Adelaide and overseas in Toronto.
He specialises in salivary gland (parotid and submandibular) diseases especially stone obstruction causing swelling and pain, the removal of benign and cancerous growths. He is also able to offer patients the option of sialoendoscopy to remove the salivary stone (like Urologists removing kidney stones) in selected cases without a scar or removing the salivary gland.
He has also received training in thyroidectomy’s for thyroid cancers from his time in Toronto (where ENT surgeons manage all thyroid cancers there). ENT surgeons have experience in the management of your voice as well as your thyroid disease. He performs micro-laryngoscopy’s for voice disorders, vocal cord palsy, vocal polyps and cancers.
He also specialises in the removal of cysts from the neck and neck dissections for cancers in the neck.
Surgery usually involves a general anaesthetic and a stay in hospital that could be overnight or several days depending on the type of surgery performed.
He works extensively with other members of the Flinders multi-disciplinary Head and Neck group to offer a treatment plan for all head and neck cancers so that patients can make an informed choice as to which treatment is most suitable for them.
